A postdoctoral position is available at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of Sabanci University, Istanbul starting September 1, 2020, for a project supported by the Health Institutes of Turkey (TUSEB) focusing on the computational analysis of missense mutations in rare diseases.
Application deadline: May 31st 2020
The research interests of our laboratory are focused on the evolutionary analysis of human proteins. Toward this end, we are investigating the potential effect of each amino acid substitution on the protein function and we aim at developing a platform to diagnose rare diseases with an accurate prediction of novel mutations.
You will be taking advantage of publicly available datasets, early access to allele frequencies derived from the Turkish Genome Project and mentoring from experts in molecular biology (Ogun Adebali) and machine learning (Oznur Tastan). You will implement the existing algorithms in a web-based platform and more significantly you will develop a new algorithm specifically tailored in the light of new evolutionary features.
We are seeking highly motivated and self-driven individuals with a PhD from Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Bioinformatics or a related program, with a strong expertise in machine learning techniques, familiarity with linux environment and capable of working collaboratively in a research team of biologists and clinicians.
